CSHC – RULES OF CONDUCT

Representing our school in various activities throughout the city, province and country is a privilege that students must accept with a sense of responsibility and pride. It must be understood that each student is an ambassador of Collège Sturgeon Heights Collegiate and the image that he/she conveys will be regarded as the standard for the entire school student-body. It is expected, therefore, that this image be a positive one that enhances the perception of Collège Sturgeon Heights Collegiate both inside and outside the community. This accepted kind of behaviour and attitude must be exhibited in the classroom and general school area, as well as on the sporting field or activity area.

The “Code of Conduct” shall guide the behaviour of all school representatives in all their endeavors. Each and every member of all Collège Sturgeon Heights Collegiate teams or extra-curricular activity is expected to review this “Code of Conduct” before the season or activity begins and abides by that code for the duration of the season and/or activity.

Students are expected to always demonstrate a positive attitude, including practice and game situations, as well as at all school functions, and in the classroom. This means that it is necessary to be courteous, mature, cooperative, and respectful in a manner befitting young adults. Individuals should conduct themselves properly, with the knowledge that they alone are responsible for their actions.
You are a student-athlete. Student is first, and therefore all athletes/participants must be receiving passing grades in the courses in which they are registered. Grade 11 and 12 students must be registered for a minimum of 3 credits per semester and Grade 9 and 10 students must be registered in a full course load each semester to be eligible to participate in extra-curricular activities. Alternatively, an exception can be made by the administration based on the timetable restrictions. If a student participating in the extra-curricular program is not attaining a passing grade (50% or higher) in any of his/her courses, he/she will be given a short period of time to do whatever is necessary to achieve that passing grade. This may include seeking extra help, participating in peer tutoring and/or completing missing assignments or tests. If he/she does not attain a passing grade and has not made some improvement, he/she will be suspended from any further involvement in that activity until a passing grade has been achieved.
Any unexcused/excused absences on a game or activity day will exclude that player/student from participating on that day. Special permission may be granted at the discretion of the school administration and coach/teacher supervisor for exceptional circumstances only. The expectation is that students must attend a full day, except for appointments booked in advance.
Division policy (Code JFCI, Section 3.1-3.3) will be followed regarding infractions involving consumption, possession and supplying/selling of alcohol and other illicit and non-illicit drugs. Coming to a game, practice, or rehearsal under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and may result in IMMEDIATE DISMISSAL FROM THE PROGRAM and consequences as set out in policy JFCI, Section 3.1-3.3
A list of students involved in an extracurricular activity will be e-mailed to all staff members. Subject teachers should let the coach or supervisor know if any of their students are “at risk”. The coach/teacher supervisor can then follow up with that student and notify them that they have one week to improve their standing.
